Criteria: Eligibility: The research module offers medical students the opportunity to work independently on research projects at an early stage, with no predetermined outcomes. The research module begins at the end of the second semester and ends with the submission of performance documents in June of the following year (in the fourth semester). Prerequisites: none stated (no specific skills, language or experience requirements published; module is designed for pre-clinical medical students) Selection process: Application period: May 1 - June 21, 2026; applications are sent by email to forschungsmodul-medizin@med.lmu.de with resume, general letter of motivation (max. 1 page) naming five preferred research laboratories/working groups, enrollment number and campus email address. In July, students register online for a project of their choice via the booking system (link received by email in July; many groups only offer one or a few places). After reserving a place, students send their CV and a letter of motivation tailored to the working group. Confirmation of the internship place by the working group can take up to August and is usually accompanied by an introductory interview. If applications significantly exceed available spots, a centralized matching tool is used to assign students to the best-matched groups. The module begins at the end of the second semester and ends with submission of performance documents in June of the following year (fourth semester).
