About StudyRoam

StudyRoam is a search engine for research opportunities — internships, visiting positions, summer programs, that kind of thing. The idea came from how annoying it is to find these. You end up googling for hours, checking dozens of university websites, or just hoping someone in your network mentions something.

So I built an agent system that crawls the web and extracts structured data about research programs automatically. It finds opportunities, pulls out the relevant details (duration, location, field, degree level), and loads them into a database. What you see on this site is the result of that pipeline.

This is still early — think of it as an alpha. The data isn't perfect, some entries are incomplete, and there's a lot more to build. But it works, and it's already useful.

I'm Philipp, a PhD student at HKUST. My research focuses on AI agent systems — how to get LLM-based agents to do useful, real-world work reliably. StudyRoam is both a research project and a practical tool that came out of that work.

If you're interested in agents — whether for research, building something, or just curious about how this works — feel free to reach out. Always happy to chat.
