Endolysosomal Ion Channels in Health and Disease

Academic Research Opportunity

A research-module internship using electrophysiology, molecular biology, imaging, and biochemical methods to study two-pore ion channels in disease. The Wahl-Schott group combines basic research with translational approaches to identify mechanisms underlying the physiological function and pathophysiological dysfunction of ion channels clinically relevant to human diseases (including cardiac arrhythmias), using techniques such as patch-clamp, molecular and cell biological methods, and knockout mouse models, with the aim of exploring these channels as targets for disease treatment.

Application

Criteria: Open to LMU medical students participating in the Forschungsmodul Medizin research module (pre-clinical phase). The matching process for projects begins in mid-June; students are asked to familiarize themselves with all available projects. This project offers 1 internship opportunity; many groups can only offer one or two places, and supervising students without prior laboratory experience requires significant commitment from the research groups.
