The X-Student Research Groups program is a key initiative of the Student Research Opportunities Program (StuROPx) within the Berlin University Alliance, designed to integrate students into the research environment of Berlin's major academic institutions. These research seminars are led by junior researchers, including doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and junior professors, who incorporate their current research projects into teaching. This structure allows undergraduate and graduate students to gain hands-on experience in authentic research processes early in their academic careers. Participation is open to Bachelor’s and Master’s students from all disciplines across the four partner institutions: Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Each group is limited to a maximum of 15 participants to ensure a research-intensive and collaborative atmosphere. The seminars typically run for one semester, and successful completion grants students six credit points (ECTS), which can often be applied to interdisciplinary or elective modules. A central component of the program is the opportunity for students to present their findings or interim results at the annual Berlin Conference for Student Research. Beyond the research experience for students, the program provides junior researchers with valuable leadership experience and the opportunity to develop their research within a teaching context. The projects are selected twice a year by a diverse panel of professors, research assistants, and students, ensuring a high standard of academic quality and student relevance.
