The Institute of Classical Studies elects a limited number of fellows annually, providing an allowance towards the cost of travel and accommodation. These fellowships are typically awarded to established scholars based outside the UK who are able to take leave from their positions to spend a short period in London. Selection is based on their past achievements and the interest of their proposed research projects. In addition to named fellowships like the Dorothy Tarrant, T.B.L. Webster, and A. D. Trendall Fellowships, the Institute also welcomes Academic Visitors and Visiting Fellows. Further opportunities include Non-stipendiary Research Fellowships, Early Career Research Associateships, and Early Career Inclusion, Participation and Engagement fellowships, which are awarded in collaboration with other Institutes. The William St Clair Fellowship is also awarded in partnership with the Institutes of English Studies and Languages, Cultures and Societies.
