This seven-week summer internship program is designed for academically motivated undergraduate students, offering hands-on research opportunities across natural sciences and social sciences. Participants engage in research projects under faculty guidance in a laboratory setting and attend lectures from world-leading researchers at the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS). The program includes cultural experiences and a field trip to explore Japanese culture and technology. It provides participants with a scholarship and accommodations. Historically open to overseas university students, it has also been open to undergraduate students from the University of Tokyo's College of Liberal Arts since 2022. Completion of UTSIP can qualify students to apply for "Category 2" of the "World-leading Innovative Graduate Study Program in Proactive Environmental Studies (WINGS-PES)," a five-year Master's and doctoral program, with potential financial support of 180,000 yen per month for five years, subject to meeting prescribed conditions.
