The Calder Summer Undergraduate Research (CSUR) program at Fordham University's Louis Calder Center provides undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to conduct an independent research project within one of the center's specialized research laboratories. Participants work under the close guidance of a mentorship community comprising faculty and graduate students, ensuring their research aligns with the broader goals of the lab. This intensive 10-week program, typically running from early June through mid-August, offers a $5,000 stipend and free on-site housing at the Calder Center, a biological field station located in northern Westchester County, New York. The 113-acre site features diverse ecosystems including forests, streams, and a 10-acre lake. Students gain hands-on experience in all phases of a research project, including literature review, experimental design, proposal writing, data collection and analysis, and the presentation of results. The program also includes short courses focused on ecological field studies and data analysis, preparing students for future research endeavors.
