The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research offers a Visiting Scholar Volunteer Opportunity within the Department of Neurosurgery at Northwell Health. This uncompensated position is designed for individuals with a bachelor's degree and an interest in pursuing a career in health sciences. Visiting Scholars provide faculty with project management support, collaborating closely with experienced clinicians, researchers, and administrative staff to ensure research and academic projects are executed with high quality and on schedule. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive literature reviews, authoring abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations, and preparing materials for submission to granting agencies and Institutional Review Boards (IRB). Scholars also manage project-related communications, attend necessary project meetings, prepare progress reports for principal investigators and funding agencies, and contribute to other articles, reports, and presentations. A critical component of the role involves identifying, screening, and consenting patients for research studies, ensuring adherence to ethical and legal standards and compliance with regulatory agencies. Additionally, scholars are responsible for creating databases and spreadsheets, and collecting, entering, and analyzing data using tools such as Microsoft Excel and REDCap. Based on performance, there are opportunities for co-authorship on published works. Prior research experience is preferable but not mandatory.
