This summer program provides medical students, typically between their first and second years of study, with the opportunity to engage in the distinctive scientific environment of Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK). Participants undertake research projects under the guidance and mentorship of MSK faculty members. Throughout this experience, students attend lectures and seminars led by prominent cancer researchers and oncology innovators, gaining firsthand exposure to the rigorous process of scientific inquiry within a leading academic cancer center, with a specific focus on precision medicine. Established in 1977, the fellowship has involved over 1,500 medical students in advancing the research mission of a world-renowned academic medical institution. Its primary objectives are to deepen students RSI understanding of cancer biology and treatment and to inspire future careers in cancer research. The program components include opportunities to collaborate with mentors in translational research laboratories, clinical shadowing experiences offering insight into clinical oncology practice, didactic sessions covering oncology, research methodologies, and professional development, and skill-building activities to enhance scientific knowledge integration and research communication. Participants are hired as temporary summer employees and receive a $7,000 stipend for eight weeks of uninterrupted participation.
