The Meyer Cancer Center (MCC) and the Englander Institute for Precision Medicine (EIPM) collaborate to offer a comprehensive seven-week summer internship program. This initiative provides high school and college students with hands-on, mentored research experiences focused on cancer and precision medicine, aiming to foster interest in STEM careers. The program is anticipated to be held in-person two to four days per week, depending on mentor availability, at the Upper East Side campus (70th & York Avenue). Participants will engage in a variety of seminars and program-specific educational sessions covering cancer biology, precision medicine, cancer epidemiology, health disparities, academic research, computational biomedicine, journal clubs, and professional development courses. They will also attend regular lectures and interact with Weill Cornell Medicine faculty, staff, and peers. Students are also invited to participate in regular EIPM and MCC events, including seminar series and working groups. Throughout their time, students receive hands-on mentorship to research scientific questions and learn about the translational research hub that utilizes precision medicine tools such as genetics, genomic sequencing, and clinical data to enhance patient healthcare. The program includes professional development workshops on resume and personal statement building, networking, crafting a pitch, and navigating college and graduate/medical school applications. Interns will also interact with members of the Meyer Cancer Center and Englander Institute for Precision Medicine, including faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff.
