The University of Tokyo Research Internship Program (UTRIP) is an intensive summer research program initiated by the Graduate School of Science (GSS) at the University of Tokyo. This program aims to promote the internationalization of the GSS by inviting talented young students from around the world. It is specifically designed for undergraduate students in their second year or later, who are enrolled at accredited colleges or universities outside of Japan and are majoring in natural science or related fields. Participants gain intensive instruction and guidance on conducting research from renowned faculty members across the GSS's five departments: physics, astronomy, chemistry, earth & planetary science, and biological sciences. Beyond research, the program also incorporates an excursion outside Tokyo and a short course on Japanese language and culture, offering a comprehensive experience of academic life and culture at the University of Tokyo. It serves as an introductory pathway for students interested in pursuing advanced M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in the natural sciences.
