The Summer Program in Translational and Engaged Research (SPRINTER) at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University offers an enriching seven-week summer research experience for undergraduate students. This program is specifically designed to provide participants with hands-on research opportunities across various disciplines including epidemiology, biostatistics, and basic science. With a strong emphasis on factors affecting health and health disparities, students gain valuable research methodology skills and participate in basic science training techniques. The program includes engaging activities such as lectures on health disparities and basic biostatistics, journal club discussions, and tours of Downstate labs and research facilities at SUNY Albany. Participants benefit from networking opportunities with professionals and peers, culminating in a poster presentation of their research findings at the program's conclusion. SPRINTER is open to U.S. Citizens or permanent residents who are undergraduate students, preferably juniors and seniors, enrolled in an accredited institution with a minimum 3.0 GPA and two years of completed science/public health coursework. A $3,000 stipend is provided, contingent upon funding availability.
