Research Opportunity for Undergraduate and Graduate Students from Non-Partner Universities (Non-Degree Seeking)

Research Stay

The International Visiting Students program at Science Tokyo offers undergraduate students (2nd-year or above) and graduate students from non-partner universities the opportunity to study abroad for a period of one month to one year. Participants are affiliated with the laboratory of a Science Tokyo faculty member who serves as their academic supervisor. During their stay, students engage in research activities, including conducting independent research projects or working towards their thesis. This is a fee-paying program for non-regular, non-degree-seeking students. Applicants must be fluent in English or Japanese, with official test scores required for English proficiency unless they are native speakers.

Criteria: Applicants must be fluent in English or Japanese, with required English proficiency demonstrated by an official test score (TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, or equivalent), unless they are native English speakers. They must secure an academic supervisor from Science Tokyo (professor, associate professor, or lecturer) and maintain student status at their home university throughout the program. Financial verification showing at least JPY 80,000 per month of stay is also required.

  7. Official Test score report from TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, or equivalent test

  9. Copy of application fee payment verification
  10. Consent of a Science Tokyo Faculty Member (email correspondence sufficient)
  11. Verification of your Financial Status (Original documentation in English)
