The UAL Visiting Research Students program invites current MPhil or PhD students from higher education institutions outside the United Kingdom to join its diverse research community for a period of either three or six months. This opportunity allows participants to immerse themselves in the vibrant research culture and doctoral training program offered by University of the Arts London. The program is specifically designed for students whose existing research would benefit significantly from UAL's specialist research environment and who wish to undertake a piece of related research during their visit. Accepted students will receive support from an academic mentor in their field of study throughout their stay, ensuring guidance for their research endeavors. Participants will also gain full access to the UAL Doctoral School, all university buildings, libraries, and comprehensive academic support services. A key benefit of this program is access to UAL's Researcher Development Programme and various postgraduate research events held across the different Colleges and Institutes, enriching the overall research experience. While an academic mentor provides support, this role does not replace the ongoing supervision from the student's home university. Visiting research students are issued a UAL student card and email address for the duration of their visit, facilitating full integration into the university's academic life. Access to highly specialized resources should be discussed during the interview process, as it cannot be universally guaranteed. The program offers three annual entry points: October 1st (application deadline July 1st), January 1st (application deadline October 1st), and April 1st (application deadline January 1st). International students typically require a Standard Visitor visa to participate. The program fee for 2025/26 is 2,060 per three-month period.
